The Wake County PTA Council is an organization whose mission - ultimately - is to support and speak on behalf of the 120,504 children in Wake County . As a part of the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation, the WCPTA Council and its member units remind our community of its continuing obligation to all children. Created as a partnership among parents, educators, students, and other individuals, the PTA actively works in schools and communities to improve the lives of all children.
The Wake County PTA Council is an umbrella organization made up of its members – 141 PTA units across Wake County , representing more than 50,000 members. Every year, the members vote on an Executive Committee to run the organization (along with the rest of the appointed Executive Board) on behalf of its members. Each pta unit provides four delegates to represent the unit’s interests at full council meetings held throughout the year.
The PTA Council helps all PTA units in Wake County keep parents informed about everything from school legislation to safety issues to Character Education curriculum and events. Council Area VPs work with PTA Presidents in each geographic area to answer questions and provide training. Other Council officers provide information, training, and special events for unit officers in specific areas, such as Reflections, Technology, or Legislative.
The Council President and other officers represent the PTA in meetings with Wake County Schools and other community groups (Kids Voting, Parentscope, etc.). The Council also sponsors several major events each year (including Great Expectations Parent Leadership Conference, Reflections, PTA Awards Banquet, and parent involvement workshops).
Membership in the PTA is open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health and welfare of children and youth. You can join the PTA at any of the 141 PTA units throughout the county - or you can contact the Wake County PTA Council at 850-1635 or send an email to
