COUNCIL INFORMATION

The Wake County PTA Council is an umbrella organization made up of its members – 141 PTA units across Wake County , representing more than 50,000 members.  Every year, the members vote on an Executive Committee to run the organization (along with the rest of the appointed Executive Board) on behalf of its members.  Each pta unit provides four delegates to represent the unit’s interests at full council meetings held throughout the year.

Advocacy :
The primary responsibility of any PTA unit is to advocate for the health and welfare of children and youth.  The Wake County PTA Council supports this effort among our units by focusing county level resources on three important advocacy areas:  parent involvement, health and safety and legislative issues.

Areas :
PTA units are divided into 6 geographic groups (Central, Eastern, Northern, Southern, South Central and Western) which are aligned with the "areas" of the Wake County Public School System. The PTA Council's Area Vice Presidents are available to work with the PTA units in his/her respective area, and presidents are encouraged to communicate often with their "AVP" for guidance, assistance and information.

Committees :
Individuals interested in serving on a council committee are encouraged to contact the chair of the committee or any member of the executive committee.  For a list of committees view current committees >>

Delegates :
According to the Wake County PTA Council's bylaws, each member unit in good standing is entitled to have 4 voting delegates at each full council meeting (held three times a year). The four delegates are the PTA president, principal, and 2 other PTA members, either appointed or elected as specified in unit bylaws

Parent Ambassadors :
Every year, numerous school system and community organizations ask the Council to provide representatives to serve on committees, commissions, task force, etc.  PTA volunteers called “ Parent Ambassadors ” serve as these representatives.  Any PTA member can volunteer for these appointments – just email the PTA office at wakeptacouncil@wcpss.net and request a Parent Ambassador Willingness To Serve application.

Programs:
The Council invests much of its resource into a handful of programs that provide value to our member PTA units.  These programs include the Great Expectations Parent Leadership Conference, Reflections, Awards Program, Character Education and Project Graduation.
